Eligibility to Vote

To register to vote a person must:

  • Be a United States Citizen per Nevada Revised Statutes (NRS) 293.485
  • Be 18 years old by election day (a person whose 18th birthday occurs on or before the day of the next ensuing election may register anytime within the year prior to the close of registration for that election) per NRS 293.485, NV Const. Article 2, Section 1
  • Actually, physically, and legally (not constructively) reside in Churchill County per NRS 293.485, NV Const. Article 2, Section 1
  • Provide official identification as proof of residence and identity, such as a driver's license or other official document per NRS 293.505
  • Provide Social Security number, Nevada driver's license number, or Nevada identification card number per NRS 293.507

Restoration of Voting Rights in Nevada

*Please note that the law regarding the restoration of voting rights for individuals with a felony conviction has recently changed. Please continue reading for information regarding the new law.

  • On July 1, 2019, Assembly Bill 431 of the 2019 Legislative Session took effect. Under this new law, any Nevada resident who is convicted of a felony is immediately restored the right to vote upon the individual's release from prison. There is no waiting period or action required by the individual. The restoration of voting rights is automatic and immediate upon the individual's release from prison, regardless of the category of felony committed or whether the individual is still on either parole or probation.
  • Individuals who have had their voting rights restored must meet all the other eligibility requirements in order to register to vote. In order to be eligible to register to vote in Nevada, please refer to the above "Eligibility to Vote" part of this page.
  • Any individual who has been convicted of a felony and is currently serving a term of imprisonment cannot register to vote or otherwise participate in the voting process while the individual is in prison.
