CC Communications recently distributed a letter regarding the upcoming requirement to dial an area code when making local calls. This change is being brought about by the Federal Communications Commission to be able to use 988 as a new nationwide National Suicide Prevention and Mental Health Crisis Lifeline starting in July 2022.
The 10-digit dialing for local calls begins April 24, 2021. There will be a grace period, but starting on October 24, 2021 the 10-digit local dialing will be mandatory. If you are dialing long distance, you will still need to dial 1 + area code + number. This change applies to those using cell phones as well as any preprogrammed dialing on any of your devices. You may want to start reprogramming those numbers on your various devices.
This requirement to dial 10 digits when calling locally applies to all phone carriers (Cc Communications, Verizon, T-Mobile, etc.) in the 775 area code.
Please call CC Communications at (775)423-7171, option 3 for residential, option 4 for businesses with any questions.
