[ARCHIVED] Community Provides Foster Youth A Memorable Christmas

Mary Sauer Toy Closet

The Mary Sauer Memorial Toy Closet made holiday wishes a reality for local foster children. During 2021, the Closet provided 409 brand new toys to children with 361 of those distributed during the Christmas season.

Toys are normally donated through the Mary Sauer Memorial Fun Run, but due to COVID the fun run was unable to be held in either 2020 or 2021. However, the Churchill County community rose to the occasion and through various community partners every child's wish list was fulfilled. Each foster youth received three to four toys, some stocking stuffers, and most received a handmade quilt as well.

The purpose of the Mary Sauer Memorial Toy Closet is to ensure that foster youth and children in need are able to have their Christmas wishes come true each year.

The Toy Closet is very grateful to Nobody’s Forever, Joe McCourtney, Fitness for 10, Starr Friedenthal and the Hearts of Gold Quilters, Vonda Norcutt, Mary Sorenson, Naomi Reeves, Alicia Stadler and Sharon Peters for their donations. We also want to thank Friends of CASA volunteers (especially Carry Thibaut and DeVere Karlson) for all they did to make this holiday so special for so many.

The Mary Sauer Memorial Toy Closet and Kids Clothing Kloset accept donations year-round for boys and girls ages 0-17. Suggested clothing donations are jeans, t-shirts, sweatshirts, socks & underclothes. Suggested toy donations include Legos, trucks & cars, blocks, board games and art kits. School supplies are also accepted. Monetary donations to either program may be made payable and sent to Tenth Judicial District Court, 73 N. Maine Street, Fallon, NV 89406 and marked attention CASA program.

The volunteers at the Toy Closet are grateful for this amazing community filled with so many giving hearts.
